2 Boomers do france

We are aboard the Irish ferry ship the WB Yates on route to Cherbourg, this is a trip we took many times over the past 20 years , for us it's actually a bit of a chore 18 hours of mah, as I type this Polly is asleep in our cabin and will only surface to get dinner I came to the bar to watch the Leinster match which we lost so it's going to be a long night, don't get me wrong the ferry is only a few years old and has all mod cons and is very comfortable but I find it a bit of a core it doesn't have the character that the Oscar wild had, it's a necessary core if you want to enjoy the delights of mainland Europe in a camping-car and in my opinion is well worth the effort.

I wrote the that opening paragraph a while back, my plan was to update the blog as I went along but I'm afraid this went out the window we have since landed back home after buzzing about France chasing the sun for the last 4 weeks so I will make a effort to log how things went over the next week or two.

I had spent the good bit of my time in the weeks before this trip researching POIs along the Nantes Brest canal in Normandy to include a spin over to the to the pink granite coast. After landing in Cherbourg we took a few days on a campsite to cool the jets.Camping chevaliers in Villedieu-les-Poêles which is about an hour form the ferry makes for a nice place for a first night or so.After that the plan went into full swing we revisited Dinan and then on to the pink granite coast, I can recommend a visit to both these places on the Cotes d'Armor the pink granite rocks are amazing we stayed on the camping municipal de Lanerllec ideal for a hike along the coast. Dinan is a fantastic example of a medieval town with a real nice port area there is a Aire in Dinan we used it for parking during our visit but moved on to Tinteniac an old school Aire in the next village right on the canal with a service point we got to meet the mare of the village the next morning when he tapped our door to collect the €6.50 fee, this is one of the reasons I love France motorhomes are accepted and catered for in the smallest of towns. While the trip was going great guns ticking all the boxes as we went there was one big elephant in the room!

This big gray hulk was of course was the weather. My trip by bike to visit the granite coast was in the pouring rain @12c in full winter gear and the forecast in the short term was for no improvement sometimes the plan has to go out the window so that is what was about to happened we put a pin in the map and headed south. In the next instalment I will reveal where we ended up and if we actually found the sun and how we got on winging it for 3 weeks !

What we learned ....  the best laid plans can go out the window , pack for all weathers and France is a very big place and the capital of the world for motorhomes ... but we already knew that !

Until next time happy camping and don't forget to wave .
